Learn a Second Language

Hi DreamKit members. Have you ever thought about learning another language or wondered what a person who is speaking another language is saying? Maybe you wanted to teach English to a non-English speaking person. There is plenty of information out there to learn a second language. Let me get into the benefits of learning a second language.

Language is a connection and positivity to cultures, appreciation for traditions, religions, and history. People who speak more than one language have improved memory, problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, enhanced concentration, ability to multitask, and better listening skills.

Knowing another language is a plus for a job.

Makes traveling much easier.

Here are some apps on Play Store to get you started:

  • Duolingo- most popular language-learning platform and the most downloaded education app in the world. Duolingo is designed to make you feel like you are playing a game.
  • Babbel-is a German subscription-based language learning app and e-learning platform, available in various languages.
  • Memrise-is a British language platform that uses spaced repetition of flash cards to increase the rate of learning. Memrise offers user-generated content on a wide range of other subjects.
  • Rosetta Stone-is an American education technology software company that develops language, literacy, and brain-fitness software. Rosetta Stone offers a lifetime subscription.
  • Google Translate-is a multilingual neural machine translation service developed by Google, to translate text, documents, and websites from one language into another. Google’s free service instantly translates words, phrases, and web pages between English and over 100 other languages.

If you ever thought about teaching English to a non-speaker, or even being an English tutor, check out Literacy Volunteers-Greater New Haven. You will be interacting with and teaching English, reading, and math to a person who speaks a different language, while you could learn their native language. It is very easy to sign up to become an English volunteer. Check out their website at: lvagnh.org. I highly recommend Literacy Volunteers because I volunteered to be an English tutor. The short time I volunteered with Literacy was fulfilling and rewarding. Plus I was able to learn a third language.

You could also check out LinkedIn Training for language courses. LinkedIn is an American website offering video courses taught by industry experts in software, creative, and business skills. You might have to pay to access some courses, but look for the free courses. Just download the LinkedIn app and get started. Or you can sign up on their website at: www.LinkedIn.com.

I hope you found these suggestions helpful. Good luck in learning another language. Adios!
